TATS CRU – BIO

Wilfredo “Bio” Feliciano is an internationally established artist whose personal and visual identity is firmly rooted in the Bronx. His Graffiti, street art, designs and canvases were shaped by and helped develop the visual identity that emerged from the cultural tensions and hard realities of the Bronx from the mid-1980s to the present. His achievements as one of the founders and mainstay members of the Graffiti collective known globally as Tats Cru were celebrated most recently by the Bronx Museum of Arts (March 2015) and his selection by Arlene Alda in her 2015 profile of leading figures who established the Bronx as an creative and intellectual center.

In addition to his Graffiti and Street Art success, Bio has been merging graffiti and fine art in galleries worldwide.

In April 2016 his solo show “HEART” at Wallworks NYC was a huge success. His work has been exhibited England, Mexico, China, Morocco, Switzerland, New Orleans, Miami and France. He has collaborated with Nick Walker and John “Crash” Matos on an exhibition as well as a live painting event at The W of South Beach for American Express. In the last 2 years Bio has been numerous exhibitions and has painted murals in NYC, Paris, New Orleans, Miami and Colombia

Coming of age as a young and tough-minded graffiti writer to celebrate individuality through art, Bio and Tats Cru developed iconic styles and strategies that brought them to the attention of established international corporations, artists, celebrities and fashion designers as well as small independent and local businesses. Bio is specifically known for his mastery in lettering and intuitively developed sense of colors and composition, as well as his organizational skills. Their work continues to negotiate between the local, national and global, and is now credited as the single most important group in the movement of a visual street culture into public domains. Testimony comes from their feature in many publications, interviews, movies, music videos, documentaries and world-wide web presence. Celebrity clients include, among others, John Meyer, Jennifer Lopez, Beyoncé, Nikki Minaj and Metallica plus numerous hip hop stars.

Alone and collaboratively he has worked across many countries while maintaining the Cru’s active relationship with THE POINT Community Development Corporation dedicated to youth development and the cultural and economic revitalization in the South Bronx. The Cru’s small office in Hunts Point has become the largest small gathering place in the world for Graffiti and global street culture.
